GOALS OF THE SOCIETY
ORGANIZATION
To honor our history and remain a financially solvent, self-supporting organization, we host events and fundraising activities that provide rich benefit to the community and create an ongoing membership drive to increase revenue and strengthen the base of the organization.
EDUCATION
To provide opportunities for community education, we commit to making archives available to school groups and the community at large for continued research and education, and we continue our history of collaboration with other community organizations for research and learning projects. We also engage local university students in or work through collaborative programming and internships.
PRESENTATIONS
To offer presentations that educate and engage the community about the rich African American history in Connecticut and more specifically, the New Haven area by offering a platform for presenters who have scholarly, artistic, cultural information or performances to share with our broad audiences of youth, students, adults, and seniors. We create venues for sharing the global influences on the African diaspora in Connecticut and provide venues for our youth to express their talents and creativity.
EXHIBITS
To offer engaging exhibits of local African American historical, cultural, or artistic value to a wide range of audiences, we preserve and display African American memorabilia, documents, and other media that support a greater understanding and appreciation for our rich legacy. We serve as a learning resource for our youth by exhibiting new and fresh information whenever it is possible.
GROWTH
To continue to grow and expand our vision and our membership throughout the Greater New Haven area and State of Connecticut, we hold networking events and develop strategic partnerships.
